SAN DIEGO - Women who begin menstruation and menopause experience later in life a greater chance of living 90, who according to a study at the University of California, San Diego School released Wednesday by researchers of Medicine.

The study, which was published in the online version of the journal Menopause, is the first to evaluate the association of reproductive factors with survival to a certain age.

"Achieving longevity is a global public health goal preguntando` many of us to live as long?" She asked Aladino Shadyab, a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of General Medicine and Public Health at UCSD.

"Our study found that women who first menstruation at age 12 or older who experienced menopause naturally or surgically, aged 50 or older and had more than 40 years reproductive chances of life increases 90 years," said Shadyab ,

The study tracked about 16,000 post-menopausal, Health Initiative of different racial and ethnic women women of 21 years and 55 percent survive 90 years.

"Our team found that women who started at a later age were menstruating less likely to have health problems such as coronary heart disease, and those who experience menopause later in life, tend to be in very good condition overall health, which is may be a possible explanation for our results, "Shadyab, lead author of the study.

The women, menstruation and menopause experienced started at a later age were also less likely to have a history of diabetes or smoking have.

"Factors such as smoking can damage the cardiovascular system and the ovaries, which can lead to early menopause," he said. "The women with menopause later and a long reproductive life more have decreased risk of cardiovascular disease."

Shadyab whose grandfather lived to 102 and awakened his passion for the study of aging, said further studies to examine how lifestyle, genetics and environmental factors can explain the relationship necessary between life and longevity of reproduction.

"This study is just the beginning to analyze the factors that can predict the likelihood of a woman to survive into old age," he said. "With my grandfather as inspiration, I am very happy to take these results and continue to contribute to the science behind longevity".

Shadyab said the number of women and 90 years living the United States dramatically over the past century has increased. Changes is currently estimated at 1.3 million expected in 2050 to quadruple demographic.
