Target - Understand the elements of working conditions, health and life of women who collect recyclable waste and are members of a cooperative of waste in a city in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.
Method - This is a qualitative, exploratory and descriptive study with seven subjects. The data were collected by participant observation, semi-structured interviews and focus group from July to August to 2013 was subjected to the data of a content analysis.
Results - The following thematic categories out: women work, informality and precariousness; The experiences of job satisfaction; and working conditions and health: experience with the benefits of accident, sickness and health.
Conclusion - It was found that women who collect recyclable materials to poor working conditions and possible health hazards, such as overwork, accidents, illness and social insecurity, and nurses are responsible actions to promote health and the inclusion of these workers to ensure.
